Small Schools memorial.

On Saturday 3rd of August 2013, A day of celebration was had at McDonalds creek property 'Bobadil' to remember the small schools of the district. The occasion was the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the Bobadil school.

More than 150 ex students and visitors were present and the plaque was unveiled by local member for the upper Hunter, George Souris.

The day wasn't just to remember Bobadil school. It also included the schools of Mount Boo, Mount Parry, Warrah Creek, Ardglen, and Jacks Creek. Bobadil just happens to be only one of two in which the building still remains. The other building that remains is Ardglen. Plaques have been laid at the other school sites as well.

The Bobadil school served the community from 1937 to 1942, but the school is actually older than that as it was originally further up the creek near the shearing sheds. In those days kids came to school on pushbike but mostly on horseback.

These small schools met their demise with the introduction of the school bus. First came Cecil Carter with his truck and a pew on each side of the tray for the kids to sit on. Then came the real buses that took over.
